How were the data and visualization produced ?

The basemap for this visual was created by aggregating multiple sources and making them compatible using geomatics methods. The location of each customs office was selected to correspond to the position of one of its ports, then arbitrarily moved for readability (this choice is justified by the fact that their geographical scope is relatively uncertain).

How to read the visualization?

The La Rochelle customs region consisted of seven offices. We know their names and locations, as indicated on the map, but not the scope of their jurisdiction. This uncertainty is signaled by the diffuse color around the office location.
